South Africa to acquire 22,600-tonne LPG terminal

Catogory : Announcements

LIQUEFIED petroleum gas provider Petredec will develop a 22,600-tonne LPG terminal at liquid bulk storage operator Bidvest Tank Terminals’ current facility at Richards Bay, South Africa, establishing the biggest such facility in the region.

Work on the terminal, composed of four tanks, each capable of storing more than 5,500 tonnes of LPG, is scheduled to begin in September and will be completed at the end of 2019, for an undisclosed price. Bidvest already operates an LPG terminal at Richards Bay with a capacity of 3,700 tonnes.

A spokesperson said that the adequate infrastructure connecting Richards Bay to the Guateng region through road and rail made it an appropriate location for developing an enlarged terminal.

The new facility would serve the twofold purpose of servicing the southern African region and acting as an export facility for international LPG trade, he added.

The UK-based company, which operates 50 gas carriers, has been active in the southern African region since 1995, while Bidvest handles 3.5bn litres of bulk liquid annually.
